Happy is the man who does not go in the company of sinners, or take his place in the way of evil-doers, or in the seat of those who do not give honour to the Lord.

The Transforming Vision (異象使吾人改變)

The Transforming Vision (異象使吾人改變)

Isaiah 6:1-13

            By Dr. Meiman Lai Saidi

1.      A Vision of God (Isaiah 6:1-4)

2.      A Vision of Self (Isaiah 6:5-8)

3.      A Vision of the World對世界的異象(Isaiah 6:9-13)

  1. In the year that King Uzziah died,    I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple.
  2. Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.
  3. And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."
  4. At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
  5. "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty."

  1. Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.
  2. With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for."
  3. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
  4. He said, "Go and tell this people: " 'Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.'
  5. Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed."

  1. Then I said, "For how long, O Lord?" And he answered: "Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged,
  2. until the LORD has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken.
  3. And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land."

1 A Divine Encounter:  I went to baptize a very sick man, who was a high school teacher,        rejected all his co-worker to visit him at that moment, but he and his family welcomed       us; I took my mother with my brother walked into their dark room. Somewhere in the darkness, I felt a hand and heard a voice. Not a physical hand nor an audible voice, but             something more real. I             heard God say, “Meiman, I love you for doing this.” It was as if           God wrapped his arms         around me and pulled me close to His heart.  Such an encounter          with God infused new strength into me that day. Yet that special moment with God               brought fresh courage and clarity to my journey through life.

2 In today’s session, we will read how Isaiah the prophet encountered God in a life –   transforming moment. Isaiah experienced a fresh vision of God, of himself, of the world       and those to whom he would minister. The Book of Isaiah chapter 6 mentioned, the year that King Uzziah died was approximately 740 B.C. He remained leprous until he died             because he tried to take over the high priest’s duties (2 Chronicles 26:18-21). Although          he was generally a good king with a long and prosperous reign, many of his people           turned away from God.

1.      A Vision of God (Isaiah 6:1-4)

a.      Isaiah’s vision was his commission to be God’s messenger to his people.  Isaiah was given a difficult mission: He had to tell people who believed they were blessed by God that instead God was going to destroy them because of their disobedience.

b.      His view of God in 6:1-4 gives us a sense of God’s greatness, mystery, and power. Isaiah’s example of recognizing his sinfulness before God encourages us to confess our sin. Isaiah’s pictures of forgiveness reminds us that we, too, are forgiven. When we recognize how great out God is, how sinful we are, and the extent of God’s forgiveness, we receive power to do God’s work.

c.       It was important for Isaiah to see God in his holiness (means morally perfect, pure, and set apart from all sin). We need the Bible’s view of God as high and lifted up to empower us to deal with our problems and concerns. God’s moral perfection, properly seen, will purify us from sin, cleanse our minds from our problems, and enable us to worship and to serve.

2.      A Vision of Self (Isaiah 6:5-8)

a,  Seeing the Lord and listening to the praise of the angels. Isaiah realized                                 that he was unclean before God, with no hope of measuring up to                                God’s standard of holiness.

b,  When Isaiah’s lips were touched with a live burning coal, however, he was                 told that his sins were forgiven. It wasn’t the coal that cleansed him,                                   but God.

c,  In response Isaiah submitted himself entirely to God’s service. No matter                             how difficult his task would be, he said, “Here am I. Send me!” The                           painful cleansing process was necessary before Isaiah could fulfill the                              task to which God was calling him.

d, Before we accept God’s call to speak for him to those around us, we must                               be cleansed as Isaiah was, confessing our sins and submitting to God’s                   control. Letting God   purify us may be painful, but we must be                                            purified so that we can truly represent God, who is pure and holy.

3.      A Vision of the World對世界的異象(Isaiah 6:9-13)

a,  God told Isaiah that the people would listen but not learn from his                                           message because their hearts had become hardened beyond                                               repentance.

b,  In 6:13, God explains His plan for a holy seed of faithful followers. God is                              merciful even when he judges. We can gain encouragement form                           God’s promise to preserve His people. If we are faithful to Him we                          can be sure of His mercy.

c,  When would the people listen?  People listen only after they had come to                               the end and had nowhere to turn but to God. This would happen                            when the land was destroyed by invading armies and the people taken                     into captivity. When will we listen to God? Must we, like Judah, go                               through calamities before we will listen to God’s words?

Consider what God may be telling you, and obey Him before time                                    runs out.

4.      CONCLUTION: Pastor Jim Edlin’s words as it conclude:

a, Yet, as God also promised, Jesus, the Messiah. The Spirit of the Lord            would save the world from sin (11:1-5). Though few might heed Isaiah’s             message of warning, the hope remained of a future with God.

b, Isaiah’s vision of God was life changing for him and his people. And it will       be for us as well. An experience of the majesty of God leads to a clearer          understanding of ourselves and our world.  When will we listen to God?      Must we, like Judah, go through calamities before we will listen to God’s            words? Consider what God   may be telling you, and obey him before time          runs out.
