Happy is the man who does not go in the company of sinners, or take his place in the way of evil-doers, or in the seat of those who do not give honour to the Lord.
Psalms 1:1

The Reward of Humility

Unit 2: The Savior ComesSession 13

The Reward of Humility " 2_24,19

Luke 18:1-17

Worldwide Outreach Teaching School

God honors those who live with a humble heart. To seek validation from God, rather than from promoting ourselves. If we receive the kingdom as Jesus has taught us, through the power of presence of the Holy Spirit, we can rest in the arms of God, in the midst of pain, suffering, loss and injustice. And like a weaned child with its mother, we may rest in trustful hope and patient expectation.

We saw what the parable of the rich man and Lazarus teaches about the importance of seeking the kingdom of God while we are able.

We will see that the life of the follower of Jesus is marked by humble thanksgiving, not arrogant boasting.

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men.

And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' For some time he refused, but finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!' "And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

解經Commentary from N.I.V.p.2184 & 靈修版220-221: 路加Luke18:1-14,

To persist in prayer and not give up does not mean endless repetition or painfully long prayer sessions. Always praying means keeping our requests constantly before God as we live for him day by day, believing he will answer. When we live by faith, we are not to give up. God may delay answering, but his delays always have good reasons. As we persist in prayer we grow in character, faith, and hope.

1:27. Widows and orphans were among the most vulnerable of all Gods people, and both Old Testament prophets and New Testament apostles insisted that these need people be properly cared for. See for example, Exodus 22:22-24; Isaiah 1:17; 1 Timothy 5:3; James 1:27.

If unjust judges respond to constant pressure, how much more will a great and loving God respond to us, we can believe he will hear our cries for help.

The people who lived near Jerusalem often went to the temple to pray. The temple was the center of their worship. The Pharisee did not go to the temple to pray to God but to announce to all within earshot how good he was. The tax collector went recognizing his sin and begging for mercy. Self-righteousness is dangerous. It leads to pride, causes a person to despise others, and prevents him or her from learning anything from God. The tax collector’s prayer should be our prayer because we all need God’s mercy every day. Don’t let pride in your achievements cut you off from God.

People were also bringing babies to Jesus to have him touch them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."

It was customary for a mother to bring her children to a rabbi for a blessing, and that is why these mothers gathered around Jesus. The disciples, however, thought the children were unworthy of the Master’s time - less important than whatever else he was doing. But Jesus welcomed them, because little children have the kind of faith and trust needed to enter God’s kingdom. It is important that we introduce our children to Jesus and that we ourselves approach him with childlike attitudes of acceptance, faith, and trust.

3.            結論Conclusion:

Lets sing along next page: Doing good to all.  Music Composed by Dr. Meiman Lai Saidi, from the word of Galatians 6:9,10.

We all approach Him with childlike attitudes of acceptance, faith, and trust.

We shouldn't give up doing good to all, for after a while we will reap the harvest.  (2X)

Have the chance, we should do good to everyone; (2X)
