Happy is the man who does not go in the company of sinners, or take his place in the way of evil-doers, or in the seat of those who do not give honour to the Lord.

We examined who is having Godly Character and we can notice those characters iin our everyday lives.

We will see that God is always faithful to His people. He doesn’t abandon people in their time of need.

A. Difficult Situation, then Meet Angel             A.困境中遇天使

Scriptures Reading: Genesis 16:7-16

  1. The angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur.
  2. And he said, "Hagar, servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?" "I'm running away from my mistress Sarai," she answered.
  3. Then the angel of the LORD told her, "Go back to your mistress and submit to her."
  4. The angel added, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count."

11.   The angel of the LORD also said to her: "You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery.

12.   He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers."

13.   She gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: "You are the God who sees me," for she said, "I have now seen the One who sees me."

14.   That is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi ; it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.

15.   So Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne.

16.   Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

Hagar was an Egyptian slave belonging to Abraham and Sarah. She was pregnant with Abraham’s child. She seems to be running back across the desert toward Egypt because she just can’t take anymore from Sarah. Before Sarah had her son, she encouraged Abraham to have children with her slaves. Once Sarah had a child, she was not excited about Abraham having a child with someone else. Hagar was in a very difficult situation.

God encourages Hagar to take the right path, which going back to Abraham and Sarah and submitting to Sarah.

We have watched three people make serous mistakes:

1 Sarai, who took matters into her own hands and gave her maidservant to husband, Abram;                                                       2 Abram, who went along with the plan, but when circumstances began to go wrong, refused to help solve the problem;                                        3 Hagar, who ran away from the problem, in spite of this messy situation, we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him(Ro. 8:28)

Sarai and Abram still received the son they so desperately wanted, and God solved Hagar’s problem despite Abram’s refusal to get involved.

1 撒萊用自己的方法將女傭給了丈夫,亞伯蘭;

2亞伯蘭卻只聽從太太撒萊的計劃與女傭關係, 卻拒絕幫忙解決困難;

  1. God hears our cries and sees us in our time of desperation Ge.16:7-15
  2. God fix our serous mistakes, blessing in disguise.

B. God Hears and Sees                                               B.

Scriptures Reading: Genesis 21:8-21

  1. The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast.
  2. But Sarah saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking,
  3. and she said to Abraham, "Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that slave woman's son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac."
  4. The matter distressed Abraham greatly because it concerned his son.
  5. But God said to him, "Do not be so distressed about the boy and your maidservant. Listen to whatever Sarah tells you, because it is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.
  6. I will make the son of the maidservant into a nation also, because he is your offspring."
  7. Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the desert of Beersheba.
  8. When the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of the bushes.
  9. Then she went off and sat down nearby, about a bowshot away, for she thought, "I cannot watch the boy die." And as she sat there nearby, she began to sob.
  10. God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, "What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the
  11. Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation."
  12. Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.
  13. God was with the boy as he grew up. He lived in the desert and became an archer.
  14. While he was living in the Desert of Paran, his mother got a wife for him from Egypt.

Outcome:   Whatever Hagar would face in the future, she would have the strong memory of the God who sees, hears, and who came to her, reminding her that she was not alone. God’s purposes would be worked out in her life.

It was a lot of hard work to make a life in the desert, but Ishmael grew up to become an archer and his mother Hagar was even able to get him an Egyptian wife.

The moral of the story is that because Hagar chose God’s way, she chose life and blessing for her and her son.

Think about it: In what ways can you become more aware of those in need?
