Happy is the man who does not go in the company of sinners, or take his place in the way of evil-doers, or in the seat of those who do not give honour to the Lord.
Psalms 1:1

Today’s message is about to remember that once spiritually dead sinners (2:1-7), made alive in Christ, are graced to do good works that praise God (2:8-10). We have to understand that true reconciliation only comes in and through Christ. We become Christians through God’s unmerited grace. However, out of gratitude for this free gift, we will seek to help and serve others with kindness, love, and gentleness, and not merely to please ourselves.

We looked how through Jesus death and resurrection, we experienced God’s grace and a transformed life.

We will see how true relationships between people, and between people and God, happens only in Christ.

From Far Away to Near:

Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands of men)--remember that at that time you were separated from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

      解經Commentary from N.I.V. p.2531 & 靈修版522: 以弗所書Ephesians 2:11-13,

The circumcision considered all non - Jews (the uncircumcised) ceremonially unclean. They thought of themselves as pure and clean because of their national heritage and religious ceremonies. Paul pointed out that Jews and Gentiles alike were unclean before God and needed to be cleansed by Christ. In order to realize how great a gift salvation is, we need to remember our former natural, unclean condition. No one is alienated from Christ’s love or from the body of believers.

Jews and Gentiles alike could be guilty of spiritual pride Jews for thinking their faith and traditions elevated them above everyone else, Gentiles for trusting in their achievementspower, or position. Spiritual pride blinds us to our own faults and magnifies the faults of others. Be careful not to become proud of your salvation. Instead, humbly thank God for what he has done, and encourage others who might be struggling in their faith.

2.    由二成一From Two to One經文 Scriptures : 以弗所書Ephesians 2:14-18,

For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

     解經Commentary from N.I.V. p. 2532.

Christ has destroyed the barriers people build between themselves. Because these walls have been removed, we can have real unity with people who are not like us. This is true reconciliation. Because Christ’s death, we are all one (2:14); our hostility against each other has been put to death (2:16); we can all have access to the Father by the Holy Spirit (2:18); we are longer foreigners or aliens to God (2:19); and we are all being built into a holy temple with Christ as our chief cornerstone (2:20, 21).

For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him and accept him, we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

3.    From Foreigners to Family: Scriptures : Ephesians 2:19-22,

Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

解經Commentary from N.I.V. p.2532解經 靈修版523: 2:19-22,

A church building is sometimes called God’s house. In reality, God’s household is not a building, but a group of people. He lives in us and shows himself to a watching world through us. People can see that God is love and that Christ is the Lord as we live in harmony with each other and in accordance with what God says in his word. We are citizens of God’s kingdom and members of his household!

Todays passage brings good news. Christ wants to create something new in us and He has the power to accomplish it. He is always looking for people who will repent of their old sinful ways, stand in solidarity with Gods people, and say, count me on”.
