Title:Transformation And Spiritual Growth Are the Goal
Scripture: (2 Ti. -26)
Paul kept on pursuing Timothy ‘Flee the evil desires of youth.’ Keep on pursuing the positive virtues; it is not enough to run away from wrong; we must run after what is good.
a)Be Kind to Pursue Righteousness and Faith:
We sometimes have difficulty being kind when we are disagreeing over something as vital as the bodily resurrection, if someone comes from a false teaching, we are to be kind. Kindness offers some protection for those who are young in faith, creating a room for reconciliation between the false teaching and God. Also, we avoid godless chatter (1 Ti. 3-11).
b)Purpose: We want all men to be saved. God desires the salvation of all people and leading them to a knowledge of the TRUTH. (1 Ti.2:4; 2 TI.2:24).We can confront one another in a way that has the possibility of building community.
c)Love: “Love is kind’ (v.4), Paul declared “If I have the gift of prophecy and I have all knowledge…but have not love, I am nothing”(1 Co.13:2).
d)Pure Heart. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position (Ro. ); the goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith (1 Ti. 1:5).
Prayer for purity – Ask for a pure heart, a steadfast spirit of faithfulness and a willing spirit of service. These can be his, only if God does not reject him and take his Holy Spirit from him.If granted, the joy of God’s salvation will return to gladden his troubled soul (Ps.51:10-12); Do not forget - Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God (Ma. 5:8).
Ultimately Timothy and we must respond to people who oppose him (or oppose us) with love, kindness, peace, patience, pursue righteousness, faithfulness. Our instruction inward and outward must focus on offers hope for transformation and Spiritual growth of all people around us.
What might those people be quarreling about (vv.14, 16; 1 Ti.1:3-4)?
